Lion’s Mane coffee is coffee blended with a Lion’s Mane mushroom ingredient. It lets you enjoy that ingredient in a familiar drink, but the amount, form and other ingredients vary between brands. Before choosing a blend, look beyond the headline and check what is actually in one serving.

This guide explains the difference between a coffee blend and a Lion’s Mane supplement, what to expect from the flavour, and where Dodjivi 4 Protection fits.

What is Lion’s Mane?

Lion’s Mane, also called Hericium erinaceus, is an edible mushroom. The name describes its white, shaggy appearance. You may see it sold as fresh food, dried powder, capsules, extracts or an ingredient in instant coffee. Those formats are different products; they should not be treated as interchangeable.

What is in Dodjivi’s Lion’s Mane coffee?

Our 4 Protection blend combines Colombian-grown 100% Arabica coffee with four organic mushroom powders: Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Chaga and Turkey Tail. The current product listing states 250 mg of each mushroom per serving, for 1,000 mg across the four mushrooms. It also states 59 mg of caffeine per serving.

The 1,000 mg total is not 1,000 mg of Lion’s Mane. When comparing products, check the amount of the specific ingredient you want, rather than assuming a blend total applies to each mushroom. Review your current pouch for serving directions and the full ingredient list.

Does Lion’s Mane coffee improve focus or memory?

Human research on Lion’s Mane is developing, but a study of a supplement does not establish a benefit for a different coffee formula.

A 2023 randomized pilot study examined 1.8 g of Lion’s Mane daily in healthy adults. It reported an improvement on one speed task after a dose and a trend toward lower reported stress after 28 days, alongside null and some negative findings. The authors advised caution because the study was small.

That study did not test Dodjivi coffee. Its dose and preparation differ from the 250 mg of Lion’s Mane listed in one serving of 4 Protection. We therefore do not promise improved memory, treatment of anxiety or prevention of cognitive decline from drinking this blend.

Choose it because you want its ingredients, coffee taste and instant format. For a broader explanation, read what mushroom coffee research actually shows.

What does it taste like?

4 Protection is described in our product listing as a mild, smooth coffee blend. Expect a coffee drink with the character of its full formula, rather than the taste of cooked mushrooms. Taste preferences vary, and the amount of water, milk and sweetener changes the cup.

If you prefer a softer cup, try milk or a plant-based alternative. If you prefer a stronger coffee flavour, adjust water within the package directions rather than adding extra servings. See our taste and preparation guide for practical adjustments.

How to make a cup

  1. Measure the serving directed on your current pouch.
  2. Add the recommended hot water and stir thoroughly.
  3. Add milk or your usual coffee additions if desired.
  4. For iced coffee, dissolve the powder in a little hot water first, then add cold water or milk and ice.

For timing and daily use, follow our beginner’s guide. Count the caffeine in this drink alongside your other coffee and tea.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lion’s Mane coffee caffeine-free?

Not necessarily. A blend made with regular coffee contains caffeine. Dodjivi 4 Protection currently lists 59 mg per serving.

Does Vitality also contain Lion’s Mane?

The current Vitality ingredient list is Reishi-led and does not list Lion’s Mane. For a Dodjivi coffee containing Lion’s Mane, compare 4 Protection with Vitality.

Can I use coffee instead of a Lion’s Mane supplement?

Do not assume they provide the same amount, ingredient form or studied effects. Compare the labels and ask a qualified professional about any specific health goal.

Is a larger mushroom number always better?

No. A total blend weight, a specific mushroom amount and an extract ratio describe different things. Use our label guide to compare like with like.

Mushroom coffee contains caffeine and multiple ingredients. Check the current label and our safety guide. Ask a qualified healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take prescription medicine, have a health condition or a mushroom allergy. These coffees are foods, not treatments for disease.
